Cowboys rumor details why Nakobe Dean chose Raiders over Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have been fairly quiet in NFL free agency so far, but it sounds like the franchise has been trying to bolster its roster.

According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, the Cowboys were very competitive in linebacker Nakobe Dean's market. However, Dean ended up picking the Las Vegas Raiders due to his gut feeling, though Dallas offered a similar deal to the young linebacker.

Dean signed a three-year deal worth $36 million with the Raiders.

"Just talked with someone close to the situation and apparently Dallas was actually very competitive in the Nakobe Dean market," Slater said. :He was one of their 5 zooms allowed. I’m told their offer was similar to the Raiders but ultimately he went with his gut feeling but was told he could have seen himself in both places and it was ā€œ51/49ā€ margin but Raiders won this one."

"At least tells you Dallas is trying."

Missing out on Dean isn't the end of the world, as the 25-year-old has had injury issues throughout his career, though he is very talented and decently productive when on the field. Linebacker remains a need for Dallas, who don't have a starting-caliber player in the position group outside of DeMarvion Overshown.

The Cowboys entered free agency with little money, so it's no surprise they haven't made many moves. The team's biggest signing so far is safety Jalen Thompson, who is joining the Cowboys on a three-year contract for $33 million.

We'll see what other moves Dallas is able to make with limited resources. However, there's no denying the offseason is off to a disappointing start for the Cowboys, whose Super Bowl window is only shrinking.
