The Dolphins re-signed one of their top receiving options

The Miami Dolphins were busy on the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period of free agency. First, they announced they werereleasing Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after six years in a move that will result in Miami taking on over $99 million in dead money over two seasons.

Then, Miamitraded defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets for a seventh-round pick, in a move that will generate some salary-cap space for the Dolphins. Once the Dolphins parted ways with those two players, they began making additions as theysigned free agent quarterback Malik Willis to a three-year, $67 million contract.

Willis was the biggest move of the day for the Dolphins, as it signified the new quarterback for Miami heading into the 2026 season. However, he was not the only addition Miami made in free agency, as they re-signed one of their top playmakers from the second half of the 2025 season.

Miami Dolphins Re-Sign Greg Dulcich

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler announced that the Miami Dolphins had re-signed tight end Greg Dulcich to a one-year, $3.25 million contract. Dulcich appeared in 10 games for the Dolphins during the 2025 season, but finished the year strong. He totaled 222 receiving yards over the final five games of the season, which would have put him on a 754-yard pace for a 17-game season.

Dulcich was listed as the No. 115 free agent by The Athletic. They gave the Dolphins an ‘A’ grade for his re-signing.The Athletic’s Mike Jones wrote, “Added to the Dolphins’ practice squad and then activated midway through last season, Dulcich excelled, recording 26 catches for 335 yards and a touchdown in 10 games. He had five games with a 100-percent catch rate and proved himself as a dangerous downfield threat. Now he returns with hopes of building on that success following pass-game coordinator Bobby Slowik’s promotion to offensive coordinator.”

Regarding his role on the 2026 Dolphins,Sports Illustrated’s Alain Poupart said, “While projecting him as a starter might be a reach at this time, Dulcich figures to get some kind of role on the offense that now will be led by Willis. The Dolphins no doubt would love to complement him with a blocking option, and re-signing Hill at some point remains a possibility.”

Dolphins Free Agency

While the trade of Minkah Fitzpatrick, and the previous releases of players like Tyreek Hill, Alec Ingold, and Jason Sanders generated cap space for the Dolphins, Miami will still need to become cap compliant once the league year begins on Wednesday.

Those moves allowed the Dolphins the possibility of signing someone like Malik Willis and retaining Dulcich, but the team is currently $1.8 million over the cap.One player who could be on the chopping block to generate cap space is linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who started 16 games for the Dolphins in the 2025 season.Poupart wrote, “The one player remaining who looks like a potential cut candidate is linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who the Dolphins could release to create $3 million of cap space. But Dodson’s cap number currently is $3.8 million, which isn’t very high for the production he provided in 2025.”
