**Ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann believes that the Reds would miss out on the “perfect replacement” for Mo Salah if Michael Olise joins Barcelona or Real Madrid.**
Reports suggest that the France international would favour a move to La Liga if he leaves Bayern Munich, but Hamann is hoping that his former club will do all they can to bring him to Anfield instead:
“For Liverpool, Michael Olise would be the perfect fit because he plays on the right-hand side, comes inside. He’s been brilliant since he came to Bayern Munich. He’s been a bit quiet in the last few weeks, but there are other players who decide games. But now with the Champions League starting again, I think we’ll probably see the best of him again.”
“He’s a wonderful player. I probably couldn’t think of a more perfect replacement for Salah than him. Bayern Munich will be reluctant to let him go because I don’t think he’s got a clause in his contract.”
“He seems to be pretty settled and happy here. And if he only wants to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, then that might not even come into the equation. But yeah, I’m sure that Liverpool will try their utmost to maybe get him out of Munich.”
Olise is the outstanding candidate for the right flank
------------------------------------------------------
The former Crystal Palace player has been in phenomenal form for Bayern, scoring 13 goals and providing 25 assists in 36 appearances this season.
Unsurprisingly, Olise’s current club are determined to keep hold of him, although there are [**questions**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-michael-olise-5/) over whether they are prepared to hand him a new contract to ward off potential suitors.
Liverpool do have other targets
-------------------------------
While nobody would disagree with Hamann that Olise is the ideal player to replace Salah, there are many factors that could scupper a move.
Even if Bayern did open the door to selling the 24-year-old, he would likely cost well over £100m, and any offer of that magnitude would hinge on Arne Slot’s side securing Champions League qualification. It means the Reds need a backup plan.
Yan Diomande is seen as the main alternative. He is much less experienced than Olise, and won’t be that much cheaper, but his club, RB Leipzig, would be more open to a sale.
