Simon Johnson has issued an update after news that Levi Colwill has returned to team training, but it may not be what Chelsea fans want.
Levi Colwill has missed all 42 competitive matches for Chelsea so far in the 2025/26 season.
His absence is due to a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during a training session in early August 2025, just days after he helped Chelsea win the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite his age, Chelsea have missed the leadership and quality he brings at the heart of the defence, with Liam Rosenior still searching for his best combination.
However, it doesn’t seem as if his return to training is a sign of an imminent return.

Levi Colwill likely to return before the end of the season
In what will come as disappointing news, Colwill is still a long way off returning.
Simon Johson gave an update on Levi Colwill’s situation after being spotted back in training at Cobham.
He claims that this is not the first time he’s been with the group, but it is still early days in terms of playing again.
The hope and plan is he will play before the end of the season.
Well, this is an improvement from the earlier claims that suggested Colwill wouldn’t be able to play a game for the rest of the current campaign.

Liam Rosenior’s update on Levi Colwill at Chelsea
This comes after Rosenior has already given fans hopes of seeing Colwill this season.
“I’m hopeful,” he said as quoted by journalist Bobby Vincent.
“I’m hopeful because he’s an outstanding player. Again, no time frames.
“You have to take these long-term injuries day by day.
“And also, it’s not about when he comes back, it’s about him staying fit when he is back.”
