Why Patriots Should Pursue This 2,750-Yard Receiver After Missing On Alec Pierce

The New England Patriots stood out on Day 1 of the legal tampering period, as they couldn't lock down a wide receiver. A lot of attention was focused on Colts wideout Alec Pierce, who ultimately didn’t hit the open market and instead signed a four-year, $116 million deal with Indianapolis.

All eyes are on whether New England will be able to acquire Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. If it can’t land him, signing San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings could be a smart move.

Jennings has been with the 49ers since 2021 and during that time has accumulated 2,581 receiving yards and 22 scores in 75 games.

One drawback of Jennings is that he has never recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, with his best performance coming in 2024, when he tallied 975 yards. This could also be because there were many mouths to feed on San Francisco's offense, which heavily favored the running game.

The 49ers reached an agreement with veteran wide receiver Mike Evans on Monday, which likely means that Jennings won't be making his way back to the Bay Area.

If New England is prepared to offer Jennings over $20 million a season, with Spotrac valuing him at $22 million annually, he could be a solid option for Drake Maye. Jennings brings five years of experience to the table and will turn 29 this year.
