Claude Makelele tells Chelsea what they absolutely cannot do ahead of PSG clash

Claude Makelele has a warning for Chelsea ahead of the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea travel to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday to face Luis Enrique’s side, who are looking for revenge.

The Blues beat PSG 3-0 in the Club World Cup final last year, something the French champions are unlikely to forget.

Claude Makelele tells Chelsea players to forget about Club World Cup final

Chelsea’s win against PSG in the Club World Cup final will go down as one of the most memorable victories in the club’s history.

PSG entered that game as European champions and were firm favourites to win, while Chelsea were written off by everyone.

It is why it will be so memorable, but Makelele has told his former club that they need to forget about it for the time being and focus on what is ahead.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official club website, the ex-France international said: “Paris will be ready, and Chelsea need to focus on this game and not dream about when they beat them in America in another competition.”

Winning at the Parc des Princes will be hard, but it is not impossible, especially with the form that PSG are in at the moment.

They recently lost to AS Monaco, and Luis Enrique has since admitted that confidence is not exactly flowing in the PSG dressing room right now. Ultimately, it looks as though you can really get at them, but whether Chelsea do that or not will depend on Liam Rosenior.

Being a big European away match, the Chelsea head coach may fancy sitting back, hitting them on the counter and perhaps playing for a draw. If they can head back to Stamford Bridge with the tie level, that would be excellent.

That will probably be the approach that Rosenior will go with. At some stage, though, it would be great to see Chelsea really take the game to PSG. If the Blues do, they could be rewarded for it, but they have to pick and choose when to go and when to stay.
