Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has strongly defended Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson after the striker delivered an impressive performance in a recent Bundesliga match. The Senegal international scored a goal and provided an assist in Bayern’s convincing 4–1 win against Monchengladbach, reminding many fans of his ability.
Jackson’s performance was especially notable because it was his first Bundesliga start in nearly three months. For Kompany, the display was proof that some of the criticism directed at the player has been unfair.
The Bayern coach believes that negative narratives around Jackson have been exaggerated. According to him, sometimes when a team is performing very well, the media looks for individual players to criticize even when there is no strong reason to do so.
By publicly backing his striker, Kompany showed that the club still values Jackson’s contributions to the squad.
Limited Chances in a Competitive Attack
One of the main reasons Jackson has not played regularly is the intense competition for places at Bayern Munich. The German club has several top attacking players, including England striker Harry Kane.
With such strong players leading the attack, it has been difficult for Jackson to secure consistent starting opportunities. Even talented forwards can struggle to find playing time in a squad filled with world-class attackers.
Jackson joined Bayern on a season-long loan from Chelsea. in September 2025. Since then, he has often been used as a substitute, although he has still managed to contribute goals and assists when given the chance.
Kompany explained that the situation is not unusual in top teams. When multiple high-level players compete for the same position, some will inevitably play fewer minutes. That does not necessarily mean the player is underperforming.
Praise for Hard Work and Professional Attitude
While discussing Jackson’s performance, Kompany also praised the striker’s behavior behind the scenes. The coach highlighted that Jackson trains well and maintains a positive attitude even when he is not starting matches regularly.
According to Kompany, the dressing room environment at Bayern is calm and supportive. He suggested that the stories surrounding Jackson have mostly come from outside the club rather than from within the team itself.
The manager even compared the situation to previous seasons when other Bayern players were criticized despite performing well. In his view, this is something that happens frequently in football when media attention focuses on individual players.
Kompany also pointed out that Jackson recently enjoyed success with the Senegal national team, including winning the Africa Cup of Nations. That achievement, he suggested, reflects the striker’s quality and commitment as a professional player.
These comments show that Jackson continues to have the support of his manager despite the debate about his role in the team.
Author’s Opinion
In my opinion, Jackson’s long-term future remains uncertain. As things stand, the striker is expected to return to Chelsea F.C. when his loan spell at Bayern Munich ends.
There is still a small possibility that Bayern could reconsider a permanent transfer, but reports suggest that such a move may be unlikely at the moment. Much could depend on how the rest of the season unfolds and how the club plans its attacking options.
In football, opportunities can change quickly. Injuries, tactical decisions, or changes in form can open the door for players who are waiting for their moment. Jackson’s recent display showed that he is ready to contribute whenever he is called upon.
For now, Kompany’s message is clear: the striker deserves support rather than criticism. If Jackson continues to work hard and deliver on the pitch, he could still play an important role before the season comes to an end.
