What did Luka Doncic do? Here's the 'inappropriate' reason NBA fined Lakers star $50,000

Luka Doncic is going to have to open his checkbook.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes on X, the NBA has fined Doncic $50,000 for "directing an inappropriate gesture to an official" during Sunday's win over the New York Knicks.

Doncic disagreed with a blocking foul called against him during the third quarter of Sunday's contest. He then turned to a referee standing on the baseline and made a "money" gesture, potentially insinuating that the official made the call on purpose.

The 27-year-old is second in the NBA with 15 technical fouls this season. He sits one technical foul behind Dillon Brooks of the Phoenix Suns.

Doncic is no stranger to paying fines

Doncic's 15 technical fouls place him one away from serving a one-game suspension.

He's not going to strengthen his relationships with officials if he continues to hint that he believes they are paid off to make certain calls.

Doncic was fined $35,000 in March 2023 for making a similar gesture to officials as a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

In 2019, the NBA fined him $10,000 for kicking the ball into the stands in a game against the Indiana Pacers.
