What Patriots signing Romeo Doubs means for possible A.J. Brown trade

The New England Patriots have finally landed a wide receiver in free agency.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have agreed to a deal with former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

The contract is for four years and is worth roughly $70 million, Rapoport adds.

"Sources: Packers FA WR Romeo Doubs is signing with the Patriots. A new weapon for Drake Maye," Rapoport reported. "It's a 4-year deal worth roughly $70M, sources say. A huge payday."

Doubs is coming off a season in which he posted a career-high 724 receiving yards, which is made more impressive when you consider he was in a crowded wide receivers room.

As things stand now, Doubs could be in line to be the No. 1 wide receiver in the room, although it's too early to tell if that will be the case.

Of course, Patriots fans were hoping for a trade for Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Here's a closer look at what this could mean for that.

What Doubs signing means for A.J. Brown

We don't believe this necessarily cancels the Patriots out from making that trade.

That's because the Patriots need more than just one wide receiver after releasing Stefon Diggs, as New England has a room filled with promising but unproven wideouts beyond Doubs and Mack Hollins.

We would say, however, that the Doubs signing decreases the chances of a trade for Brown.
