How Patriots' Agreement With Romeo Doubs Affects Their Pursuit Of A.J. Brown

The Patriots seem to have found a new wide receiver. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, New England has come to an agreement with Green Bay Packers star Romeo Doubs on a four-year deal worth up to $80 million on Tuesday.

Many Patriots fans were likely surprised to see that Doubs ended up being the first big wide receiver brought into New England this offseason, especially after all the speculation surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles potentially trading wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Even though the Patriots have agreed to a deal with Doubs, it doesn't mean they're out of the running for Brown. Of course, the odds of the Patriots landing him have decreased with the addition of Doubs, but New England still needs to secure a true No. 1 wide receiver, as Doubs is more suited to being a No. 2 rather than a No. 1.

The main challenge for the Patriots in acquiring Brown is that it will likely be costly. They may have to part with a first-round pick this season, and possibly a third-round pick as well. Additionally, he carries a $23 million cap hit this season and is under contract until 2029.

New England needs to consider whether it's worth giving up significant draft picks for an experienced wide receiver who is likely entering the end of his prime, especially after it recently invested $80 million in another receiver this offseason.
