NFL insider Adam Schefter was mercilessly mocked by ESPN host Mike Greenberg after he began complaining about free agency dates, noting that most moves have occurred prematurely.

Several blockbuster free agency moves have already been agreed upon, with Travis Kelce returning to the Kansas City Chiefs and explaining Taylor Swift's unique influence and the Carolina Panthers paying $120 million to secure Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Jaelen Phillips for four years.

However, players cannot be registered until 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, when the new league year officially begins. Schefter ranted on ESPN 'Get Up' that the free agency dates are a "joke," but was instantly mocked by Greenberg, after the show started with an update on a "huge name" yet to agree a deal.

"That was quite a frenzy yesterday. And let me say this also. What a joke! Free agency opens at 4 o'clock on Wednesday? Free agency closes at 4 o'clock on Wednesday; it's over," Schefter said.

"We can call this 'legal tampering,' we can call 'open negotiating,' what a crock. Free agency starts on Monday at noon. Can we just change the lingo?"

Greenberg was prepared for Schefter's rant and already had a custom salt shaker by his side. Greenberg mocked Schefter by calling him "salty" and had a 'Salty Scheffy' sign on the shaker.

"Have I got my salt shaker here? My salty Scheffy," Greenberg joked, as Schefter began laughing from his own studio.

Schefter explained his position further, adding, "I'm not salty, I'm just speaking the truth, Greeny. We could call it whatever we want, but free agency... that first day was almost unprecedented, with all the players that reached agreements right away.

"Now, it feels like we are waiting for some deals. The quarterbacks are interesting, let me be clear about that."
