The New England Patriots went out and got one of the best receivers on the market, signing former Green Bay Packers star Romeo Doubs.
However, it seems they might not be done just yet.
It’s no secret that the Patriots have also shown interest in Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, but a trade has yet to be finalized as Philadelphia’s asking price has reportedly been too high. Yet, things can always change, and according to one Patriots insider, Brown could still find himself in New England for the 2026 season.
“I’m told the Romeo Doubs signing won’t necessarily preclude the Patriots from continuing to pursue A.J. Brown,” MassLive’s Karen Guregian wrote.
This comes after a new report from NFL Insider Albert Breer that lists the Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Buffalo Bills as teams on Brown’s wishlist. However, according to Breer, New England seems to be the only team showing real interest.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to host Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. for a 30 visit, according to NFL analyst Ryan Fowler.
And with this, many are speculating that this move could signify the Eagles are looking for their replacement for Brown.
“Getting their AJ Brown replacement scouted,” one person posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Patriots need to pull the trigger asap,” another person shared.
“Please fall in love with him and ship AJ Brown to New England for pick 31,” a fan commented.
“The takeaway for Patriot fans reading this tweet might be that the Eagles are targeting an AJ Brown replacement, which might be true. I read this and it reminds me that if the Patriots want to draft a WR1, they’ll likely have to trade up,” another fan wrote.
NFL Insider Provides Details On Patriots’ Pursuit Of A.J. Brown
Eliot Wolf
GettyINDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – FEBRUARY 24: General manager Eliot Wolf of the New England Patriots speaks to the media during the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 24, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe provided a crucial update regarding the Patriots’ pursuit of Brown.
“Well the Patriots have been very active trying to find a new WR1,” Wolfe said when speaking on NFL Network’s Free Agency Frenzy show. “And look, I am told that the conversations around A.J. Brown are not dead yet. I think their number one priority, if they had a choice, would be to figure out a way to trade for Eagles receiver A.J. Brown.”
“But my understanding is that the Eagles’ asking price is still very high and so right now there is not much common ground right now on a deal,” Wolfe continued. “That could change in the coming days, so that’s the one I’m keeping an eye on. I also checked in on Stefon Diggs — is there any chance they would bring him back? It sounds like that’s a no at this stage. They liked what he did for them last year, it was a cost over value thing, but they are hoping to get a number one receiver who’s a little younger, a little bit more trending upward in his career.”
