Sandy Baltimore on what it would mean to retain 'special' League Cup

Having registered a brace and an assist in last season's FA Cup final, Sandy Baltimore has a history of producing match-winning performances against Manchester United. And the Blues wing-back hopes to do the same when the sides again face each other in the League Cup's showpiece fixture on Sunday.

We meet Marc Skinner's side in the Women's League Cup final at Ashton Gate, with the first trophy of the season up for grabs.

Baltimore has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and once again proving her importance to this Chelsea side, whether deployed as a full-back, wing-back or winger.

We faced Sunday's opponents in the FA Cup in our last outing before the international break – and the Blues needed extra time to score the crucial goal that put us in the quarter-final.

Ahead of this latest test, the France international understands that United will once again prove to be a tough team to beat.

'We feel good,' said Baltimore. 'It’s a big game, and we’re looking forward to playing against Manchester United. We will work hard to try to win the trophy. It won’t be easy, and we need to improve and work hard.'

The Blues are the holders of the League Cup, having beaten Manchester City 2-1 in last year's final at Pride Park.

Baltimore has fond memories of that day and hopes for a repeat this Sunday. 'It’s a special competition for me because it was my first trophy during my first year with Chelsea,' she continued.

'We won three trophies that season too, and it was amazing for me. I was so happy, and now it’s about continuing on that path.'
