Manchester City have the chance to sign some new faces this summer when the window opens up
Manchester City could battle Bayern Munich for Feyenoord defender Givairo Read this summer, according to CF Bayern Insider (with reporter Christian Falk). Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new right-back in the next window. The North West side have been linked with Tino Livramento at Newcastle United.
City are sat in 2nd place in the Premier League table behind Arsenal. They are seven points off the Gunners with a game in hand. Guardiola’s men are back in action on Wednesday night in the Champions League against Real Madrid.
Manchester City linked with Feyenoord defender Givairo Read
City could see Read as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. He is under contract at Feyenoord until June 2029.
Read, 19, is a Holland youth international and he is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He has been on the books of his current club since 2023. Prior to his move to Rotterdam, he had spells at Zeeburgia and FC Volendam.
The teenager has made 50 appearances in all competition for the Eredivisie outfit and he has scored four goals. City need to see off competition from Bayern Munich if they are to land his signature. Vincent Kompany is keen on luring him to Germany.
Journalist Falk has shared this update on the situation: “It is NOT TRUE: Givairo Read has become too expensive a potential signing for Bayern Munich. Bayern feel they can sign the player if they want to. Of course, you never know which clubs will rear their heads from the Premier League and offer, from a German perspective, some crazy prices.
“So Bayern Munich won’t pay, say, €60m [£52.1m] for a right-back. They think they can get him for €30m [£26m] with add-ons – that’s absolutely a discussion the club is happy to have. But this is the range Bayern Munich would like to pay, and it matches the right-back’s market price. Of course, the market can have other ideas, and the Premier League can also influence the asking price! But for the time being, Bayern have a very good feeling that they can sign Read this summer.”
