The New York Giants re-signed linebacker Micah McFadden on Tuesday to a 1-year deal.
The New York Giants continued to upgrade the middle of their defense Tuesday by bringing back a familiar face.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, New York re-signed linebacker Micah McFadden to a one-year deal. McFadden will make $3.75 million with the possibility of up to $5.75 million.
McFadden recorded over 100 tackles the previous two seasons before missing virtually all of last year with a Lisfranc foot injury.
McFadden Missed Most of 2025 to Injury
McFadden missed the Giants’ final 16 games in 2025 due to a foot injury that required surgery, though his return suggests he is healthy again. The 26-year-old from Indiana was hurt in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders while making a tackle.
His absence was a significant problem for New York, which ranked 31st in the NFL against the run (145.3 yards allowed per game) and 26th in scoring.
McFadden has established himself as one of the Giants’ most reliable defenders since debuting as a fifth-round pick in 2022, recording 267 tackles, six sacks, and one interception. In his last full season in 2024, Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked him second among all linebackers with a grade of 90.2.
While the Giants have yet to publicly confirm the deal, McFadden’s return was met with collective approval on social media.
“An obvious fit,” Giants reporter Dan Duggan of The Athletic wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Gives the Giants a starting-caliber LB, but they certainly can still upgrade. Gives McFadden the chance to rebuild his value in a familiar setting. …”
Giants Land Bears Star on $36 Million Deal
McFadden’s return comes as the Giants revamp their defense under new head coach John Harbaugh. On Monday, New York kicked off free agency by agreeing with former Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds on a three-year, $36 million deal. The 27-year-old Edmunds became a salary-cap casualty after three productive seasons in Chicago. Last year, he had 112 tackles and four interceptions in 13 games.
Edmunds, rated 34th out of 88 eligible linebackers by PFF in 2025, replaces Bobby Okereke in the middle of the field.
