Jets to sign former Bears CB Nahshon Wright

Nashshon Wright, who led the NFL in takeaways as a member of the Bears last year, won’t be coming back to Halas Hall.He agreed to sign a one-year, $5.5 million contact to join the Jets, NFL Network reported Tuesday.Wright was the great surprise of the Bears’ season. One year after he failed to play a single defensive down for the Vikings, Wright signed with the Bears as a depth piece and to reunite with defensive backs coach Al Harris. Jaylon Johnson’s injury on the eve of training camp gave Wright the chance to play meaningful snaps in training camp and he impressed the coaching staff. He wound up starting all but one game during the regular season.Wright finished with five interceptions, one returned for a touchdown — a 74-yarder in the Bears’ season opener — and a whopping three fumble recoveries. He forced two fumbles. He did both when he punched the ball out of Jalen Hurts’ arms during a “Tush Push” against the Eagles on “Black Friday.” It was one of the highlights of the Bears’ season.Wright was upset that he wasn’t named to the Pro Bowl when the votes were announced, but he was added to the NFC team as an injury replacement.

A year ago, the Jets thought their found their answer at quarterback in former Bears first-round pick Justin Fields. Tuesday, they traded for a new starter.
