Report: Celtic have cheap chance to sign 18-goal striker wanted by Barcelona

Celtic are now racing Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of an "intelligent" striker, who's been in fantastic form.

Hoops keen on bringing in new striker despite signing Cvancara

The Hoops attempted to boost their Scottish Premiership title push by signing Tomas Cvancara during the January transfer window, and while the striker has just one goal to his name in the league thus far, he was the hero against Rangers in the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Cvancara converted the crucial penalty, which booked Martin O'Neill's side's place in the final four, with the eight-cap Czechia international saying after the match: "I feel happy that we got through to the semi-final. Obviously it was a difficult game, but sometimes it’s not about how beautifully we play, but it’s about who is the winner in the end.

"And we showed again that we have the character to win these games and I am happy for the team. It’s not in doubt that we didn’t create a lot of chances, maybe we can play a little bit faster in the counter attacks.

"But, as I said, I’m just happy that we showed we have very good character."

Albeit in a penalty shootout, scoring against the Gers is always a good way to endear yourself to the Parkhead faithful, but bringing in another centre-forward is on the agenda in the summer transfer window.

That is according to a report from BILD (via Sport Witness), which states Celtic are now lining up a move for Chivas de Guadalajara striker Armando Gonzalez, but there could be fierce competition for his signature, with giants Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund also in the race.

Dortmund are seriously considering a move for the Mexican, given that his contract is set to expire in the summer, which means a bargain deal is possible.

At just 22-years-old, the centre-forward is yet to test himself outside his home country, but his goal record this season is very encouraging...

"Intelligent" Gonzalez tearing it up in Mexico

YouTuber Felix Rios is an admirer of the Celaya-born marksman, saying back in 2024: "Armando González has the qualities that make a good striker: intelligent at reading the box and managing to get unmarked, he knows how to find spaces and exploit them."

Since then, the Chivas star has gone on to establish himself as a key player, chipping in with 18 goals and one assist across 27 matches in all competitions this season.

Celtic could end Yang & Maeda's Parkhead careers by signing SPFL star

Celtic could end Hyun-jun Yang and Daizen Maeda's Parkhead careers by signing this reported transfer target.

The four-cap Mexico international is averaging 0.84 goals per 90 in the Liga MX Clausura this term, although his goal tally of six should arguably be far higher, given that he has missed 11 big chances.

As such, Gonzalez evidently isn't the finished article just yet, but his goal record indicates he is now ready to test himself at a higher level, and Celtic should make a move this summer, even though it will be difficult to beat Barcelona and Dortmund to his signature.
