Manchester United have the opportunity to freshen up their ranks this summer
Manchester United remain in the ‘race’ for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer, according to TEAMtalk. They are keen on lure the player to Old Trafford in the next transfer window. However, they face competition from Arsenal, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Michael Carrick remains in interim charge of the Red Devils. He is holding the fort until a permanent successor for Ruben Amorim is found. The North West giants are sat in 3rd place in the Premier League table.
Manchester United transfer update regarding Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali
United could see Tonali at Newcastle as someone to replace Casemiro, who is leaving at the end of the season. The 25-year-old has caught the eye with the Magpies since his move to England in 2023. He has become one of their most prized assets and they will face a real battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere.
The Italy international, who has 30 caps to his name, has made 102 appearances in all competitions for the Toon Army, 45 of which have come in this campaign. He has chipped in with 10 goals from the middle of the park. His contract in the North East expires in June 2028 so he still has two years left to run down.
Tonali started his career at Brescia and broke into their first-team as a youngster. AC Milan then came calling on an initial loan that was later made permanent. He played 130 matches for the Serie A powerhouse and found the net on seven occasions.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has recently said: “Sandro’s very happy here. He’s got a great relationship with me and his teammates and he seems really, really, happy within himself. I don’t see an issue, but I’m not in control of everything. If I knew where everything [rumours] came from I’d be wiser. But Sandro is absolutely fine. I had discussions with him yesterday. His focus is on the here and now with us.
“There’s no issue with Sandro. He’s happy and committed. But our best players will always be attracting glances from other clubs – that’s just the reality of football.”
