Report: Pacheco heading to Detroit in free agent deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Another member of the 2022 Kansas City Chiefs draft class has seen his final days in red and gold.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Detroit Lions are signing running back Isiah Pacheco.

The Rutgers product and former seventh-round pick for Kansas City joins the Lions as a complimentary back along with star running back Jahmyr Gibbs. He replaces former Lions running back David Montgomery, who joined the Houston Texans via trade last week.

Pacheco helped the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls during his first two seasons in the league, scoring a touchdown in Kansas City’s Super Bowl 57 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

In four seasons in Kansas City, Pacheco totaled 2,537 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 88 passes for 554 yards and 3 touchdowns.

In Week 2 of the 2024 season, Pacheco fractured his fibula late in the fourth quarter of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

He returned later in the season but had lost some explosiveness as a runner and struggled to regain the same form in 2025.

Pacheco’s departure comes a day after Kansas City reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year deal with [Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker.](https://www.kctv5.com/2026/03/09/report-super-bowl-lx-mvp-kenneth-walker-iii-headed-chiefs/)
