Chelsea vs PSG: Predicted XI as Liam Rosenior takes inspiration from Enzo Maresca victory

Chelsea are making the trip to Paris for the first leg of the crucial Champions League Round of 16 tie against PSG, and The Chelsea Chronicle have predicted the XI which will start.

Liam Rosenior has experience beating PSG during his time at Strasbourg, and the Blues came out on top in the heated Club World Cup final back in the summer.

The Blues are likely to be without Estevao Willian for the first leg at least after he didn’t train with the first team squad, leaving a tough decision to be made for Rosenior.

The Chelsea Chronicle have made their predictions for the Chelsea side to take on PSG away from home, before welcoming them back to Stamford Bridge next week.

Chelsea Predicted XI vs PSG

Chelsea fans voted for Filip Jorgensen to start ahead of Robert Sanchez, and we are agreeing with this choice. The Spaniard didn’t cover himself in glory again against Wrexham.

Rosenior must copy a number of Enzo Maresca’s tactics from Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph, and that includes starting Malo Gusto at right-back.

The defensive woes make the centre-back position an easy one for the manager. Trevoh Chalobah will return to the starting side.

He will be partnered by Wesley Fofana, as the likes of Mamadou Sarr and Tosin Adarabioyo drop back to the bench.

Marc Cucurella will return to the starting side, despite some impressive performances of late from Jorrel Hato.

Again taking a page from Maresca’s playbook, Reece James will captain the side from a midfield position.

He will be partnered by Moises Caicedo, bringing a level of physicality that the PSG midfield will struggle to deal with.

Ahead of those two, Enzo Fernandez will be unleashed in the number 10 role, allowing him to hold a goal threat again that he doesn’t always have when coming in from the left.

Who are you starting on the left vs PSG?

A couple of excellent performances in a row will see Alejandro Garnacho start in the left-wing position, forcing Pedro Neto to wait for his chance from the bench.

Cole Palmer will be coming in from the right. Gusto will look to provide width like he did in the Club World Cup final, allowing him to cut inside onto his left foot.

Up front, Joao Pedro will again lead the line. He is closing in on 20 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club.
