The New England Patriots have plenty of positions to address during free agency and only so much time to do it...
If the club intends on putting itself in a position to regularly contend, it will have to put together another near-flawless offseason as it brings aboard pass-rushers, wide receivers, offensive linemen, linebackers, and tight ends -- a group that reportedly now includes wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Let's take a look at the newest tenant at One Patriot Place!
Bio:
Romeo Doubs
Position: WR
Height: 6’ 2"
Weight: 204lbs
2026 Age: 26 (April 13, 2000)
2025: 16 G, 63 REC, 848 REC YDS, 7 TD
The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs because:
If they want to do something else, they can...
The Patriots were in an interesting spot when it came to their pursuits at wide receiver, as the high-profile targets we were all talking about prior to the start of free agency were either going to cost money and draft capital (A.J. Brown and Brian Thomas Jr.) or served in very specific roles that would have left needs to be filled elsewhere (Alec Pierce and Wan'Dale Robinson).
Doubs, despite clearly being one level below the previously listed group, was brought in on a deal that is easy to defend (four-year, $68 million) while also having the versatility to plug into multiple roles (290 career snaps from the slot, 1,409 career snaps split out wide) and allow the organization to continue looking.
Doubs has also proven to be an elite postseason performer, as he has totaled 20 receptions and 371 receiving yards across four playoff games with the Green Bay Packers. If there was ever something missing from the wide receiver room, it is proven production year-over-year.

The Patriots' next move should be:
... whatever they want.
Doubs' value comes in the fact that he can literally play anywhere, so the organization probably finds solace in the fact that it still has options. If they want to draft one of the many enticing slot receivers slated for the 2026 NFL Draft (KC Concepcion, Germie Bernard, Omar Cooper Jr.), they can do it. If they want to trade for Brown, they can do it.
MassLive's Karen Guregian even reported that the signing won't necessarily preclude the club from targeting the latter, so there are moves still to be made.
