Otito Ogbonnia has agreed to a deal with an NFC East team

The Los Angeles Chargers have been somewhat quiet in the 2026 NFL Free Agency’s legal tampering period and have begun to lose members of the 2025 roster.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo revealed that defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia will sign a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

The #Cowboys have agreed to terms with NT Otito Ogbonnia on a one-year, $3 million deal.

Ogbonnia, who played in 42 games with 20 starts in four seasons with the #Chargers, heads to Dallas on a deal negotiated by @kenny_zuckerman of @PrioritySports.

Ogbonnia, who was the 160th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of UCLA, logged 82 total tackles and half a sack in his four-year career.

In his final season with the Bolts, the defender recorded 10 tackles (3 of them were tackles for loss), half a sack, and got a hit on the quarterback once.

Ogbonnia was more of a rotational piece on the Chargers’ defense down the middle, as Teair Tart was the main option at defensive tackle.

The defensive lineman has played in one complete season in his career so far, which was also the best of his career. Otito Ogbonnia has played in 9 or fewer games in the other three seasons.

Other Notable Departures from the LA Chargers

After re-signing Khalil Mack for another season, the Los Angeles Chargers were hoping to keep EDGE rusher Odafe Oweh. But that plan didn’t come to fruition, as the pass rusher secured a major deal with the Washington Commanders on a four-year, $100 million contract.

LA had one of the highest salary caps entering free agency and could have provided a similar (or better) deal to Oweh.

Now, first-year pass defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary will have to be without one of the team’s better pass rushers in his first year calling the players under Jim Harbaugh.

The team also took a hit on the offensive side of the ball. Left guard Zion Johnson, whom the Bolts also wanted to retain, signed a three-year, $48 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.

The interior offensive line was a concern in the 2025 season, but Johnson excelled in his role despite a damaged unit.

Additions to the Squad

Cole Strange

While not adding any major names in free agency so far, the Los Angeles Chargers have made some under-the-radar moves, primarily fixing the offensive line.

The Bolts signed former first-round draft pick Cole Strange to a two-year deal. Strange began his professional career at left guard before moving to right guard under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel while together at Miami.

LA also signed center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million deal to replace Bradley Bozeman, who had one year left on his contract before calling it a career.

To help in the blocking game, the Chargers signed former Baltimore Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar on a three-year, $24.3 million deal.

These are among the more notable moves the Los Angeles Chargers have made since the start of the legal tampering period. LA still has plenty of cap space to make some serious acquisitions to the roster.
