Galatasaray will be without Davinson Sanchez for the last 16 second leg at Anfield next week after he was shown a yellow card late in their 1-0 win.
The Champions League tie in Istanbul started with eight players under suspension threat, but only one picked up a yellow card which ruled them out of the second leg.
Sanchez, formerly of Tottenham, was shown a late yellow card for a challenge on Hugo Ekitike, seeing him reach the three-card threshold for a one-match ban.
As per UEFA rules, from the start of the league phase, a player will receive a one-match suspension after receiving three yellow cards.
A subsequent one-match ban is then awarded upon being booked five times and seven times. These are not wiped until after the quarter-final stage.
UEFA clearly did not factor in the added games their new format created when considering how many cards would be needed for a suspension, as the Galatasaray manager previously pointed out.
Sanchez has started every Champions League game for Galatasaray this season and has missed only a further five games across all competitions, with the 29-year-old heavily relied upon.
Wilfried Singo could shift across to cover his absence, while Kaan Ayhan could also be considered.

The Reds have a job to do at Anfield to overturn the deficit and progress to the quarter-final, and that will be their primary focus.
They will, however, have three players who would miss the first leg of the next stage if they were shown a yellow card and Liverpool progressed.
Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones are now all on two yellow cards after the captain and the Hungarian were both cautioned against Galatasaray.
Liverpool would meet the winner of PSG or Chelsea in the quarter-final, with the first leg played away from home.
All will be decided on Wednesday, March 18 at Anfield!
