With the influx of new players signing contracts in the NFL during the first couple of days of free agency, the unfortunate side of the business is that not everyone can stay.
For the Carolina Panthers, they made two massive signings on the defensive side of the ball by agreeing to terms with linebackers Devin Lloyd and Jaelen Phillips. The two new additions, unfortunately, pushed A’Shawn Robinson out of the fold, as it was announced on Tuesday that the Panthers were releasing him.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle had spent the last two seasons with the Panthers, and also played with the Detroit Lions, New York Giants, and Los Angeles Rams. He will now have to find another NFL organization.

The 30-year-old A’Shawn Robinson actually performed pretty well for the Panthers over two seasons. In 32 games started, he recorded eight sacks, which was by far his highest sack total with any team.
Robinson has 15 career sacks in 143 total games over 10 NFL seasons. He also has an even 500 tackles over his career, and is known as a run stuffer at the nose tackle position.
The Panthers are really deep up front, especially at defensive tackle, which is likely why Robinson heads out the door. Carolina has, of course, Derrick Brown, but also added Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III as younger, more spry options on the defensive line.

A’Shawn Robinson was a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions out of Alabama.
After a semi-productive first four years with the Detroit Lions, Robinson signed with the Rams and was later moved to the Giants. From 2020 to 2023, Robinson recorded just two sacks.
However, he found his pass-rushing ability once he joined the Panthers, where he kind of revitalized his career. His eight sacks over two years at age 30 might land him a small contract somewhere, but he will likely be a bottom of the depth chart option who can only play a limited amount of snaps.
