Chicago Bears add versatile DB after losing Nahshon Wright

LAKE FOREST, Ill., — The Chicago Bears needed to target the secondary going into free agency, with the team having no safeties under contract, plus Nahshon Wright and C.J. Gardner-Johnson hitting the free agent market as well. After they added Coby Bryant on Monday, the team moved quickly to find another piece.

Shortly after Wright agreed to a deal with the New York Jets for one year and up to $5.5 million, the Bears agreed to a deal with former Buffalo Bills defensive back Cam Lewis. It's a two-year deal for Lewis, and it's one that can fill a need.

Lewis is a versatile corner who has experience playing mostly nickel and safety during his time with the Bills. He did have four snaps on the boundry last season, too. With Chicago needing to fill those voids, Lewis is expected to play one of those roles in Dennis Allen's defense. He also has special teams value, playing on 75 percent of Buffalo's snaps on special teams last season.
