San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings receivers a 67.1 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025.

The Washington Commanders have been looking for anew playmakeron offense. Specifically, they have been searching for a new number two option at wide receiver behind Terry McLaurin. Deebo Samuel was a solid piece for the2025 season, but given that he’s afree agent and 30 years old, he may not be in the Commnaders’ future plans. Based on how the first two days of the NFL free-agency period have unfolded, the Commanders’ top option may have just revealed itself.

Among the wide receiver free agents that were available entering day one of free agency, five ofBleacher Report’s top eight-ranked options have already been signed or tagged. This includes George Pickens to theCowboys, Alec Pierce to theColts, Wan’Dale Robinson to theTitans, Mike Evans to the49ers, and Rashid Shaheed to theSeahawks. This leaves three remaining options for the Commanders, and Adam Peters has connections to two of them.

GettySpotrac lists Jauan Jennings’ market value at $22.6 million annually, with him projected to sign a three-year contract.

In Adam Peters first season as an assistant general manager with the San Francisco 49ers, he helped select Jauan Jennings in theseventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Jennings ranks number four on B/R’s Kristopher Knox’s top free agent wide receivers. “Jennings tallied 975 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games two seasons ago and had 643 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games this past season,”Knox wrote. “A strong route-runner with archetypal size (6’3″, 212 lbs), great physicality, good after-the-catch ability, and inside-outside versatility, Jennings should fit a variety of schemes as a possession receiver.”

John Portis of SB Nation backed this idea in his article about the Commanders’best available players in free agency, writing, “Jennings can still upgrade a wide receiver room that lacks proven talent. The big wide receiver is more of a possession than vertical threat.”

Jennings would slot well into new offensive coordinator David Blough’s scheme as another reliable target for Daniels. While not the most explosive athlete in the world, Jennings is a consistent route-runner and catcher who was built for the spotlight.

He’s totaled 22 receiving touchdowns and 2,851 receiving yards across his five seasons with the 49ers. While the Niners expressed initial interest in retaining Jennings, their recent signing of Mike Evans to a three-year contract worth up to$60 million moves the needle further on the likelihood of Jennings returning.

It was also reported that the Commanders were one of thefinal teams in the running for free agent receiver Romeo Doubs before he signed with the Patriots. Jennings could very well now be their next choice.

Commanders May Still Be Kicking the Tires On Brandon Aiyuk

Brandon Aiyuk Commanders

GettyBrandon Aiyuk has posted 294 receptions for 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns in his 69 career games played.

The other connection Peters has is to another 49ers receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. Peters had previously stated hisbelief in second chances, which was in reference to Aiyuk getting another opportunity to play following his fallout with the 49ers. Aiyuk is set to be released on March 11, which is the start of the new league year. Dan Graziano of ESPN stated that he believes there is agood chance Aiyuk ends up in Washington, not just because of his connection to Peters but also Jayden Daniels. Daniels and Aiyuk have been friends since they were teammates at Arizona State University in 2019.

The Commanders still have options of other players they could bring in to add a new element at receiver, but as free agency continues, that herd gets thinner and thinner.
