Joe Gelhardt and Lewis Koumas scored to seal a crucial 2-1 win for Hull City at play-off rivals Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Gelhardt's stunning free-kick five minutes before the break broke the deadlock and he should have made it 2-0 moments later after being fouled inside the box, but saw his penalty kick saved by Arthur Okonkwo.

City did get the second goal their dominance deserved just after the hour when Lewis Koumas brilliantly headed in Liam Millar's inviting cross.

Things were set up for a nervy finish when Nathan Broadhead scored with 14 minutes left, but City survived.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday evening...

Ivor Pandur: Almost nothing to do in the first 30 minutes, until he needed to deal with a Windass effort from a quick counter. Got a bit nervy after their goal. 6/10

Paddy McNair: A fairly quiet first half, was booked on the stroke of half-time. Really good in the second and City looked less solid after he went off. 7.5/10

Charlie Hughes: Wore the skipper's armband with Lewie Coyle not in the starting line-up and was impressive in the first period. Won the free-kick, from which Gelhardt scored. 7/10

John Egan: Comfortable for the most part in the opening period and that continued until their goal which made it nervy. 7/10

Cody Drameh: Solid opening exchanges, and came close to scoring when his effort deflected up onto the roof of the net. A really good display. Dealt well with Kabore when moved to the left. 7.5/10

Regan Slater: Very good in the opening quarter, dominated the midfield exchanges. Had to dig deep in the second half after their goal. 7.5/10

Liam Millar: Quiet first half, but was operating in a more defensive wing-back role. Could have scored in the second before his cross was headed in. Lost Kabore for the goal. Did a job for his team, though. 7/10

Amir Hadziahmetovic: Did well keeping things ticking over in the centre of the park. Really coming into his own now. 7.5/10

Joe Gelhardt: Scored a wonderful free-kick from the edge of the box before being fouled inside it moments later. Saw his penalty kick saved. 7.5/10

Lewis Koumas: Had a bright moment early on but couldn't make more of it. Created a fine chance for Millar before scoring the crucial second with a neat header. 7.5/10

Oli McBurnie: Booked after just six minutes, plenty of graft. Clever lay-off for Gelhardt to then be fouled inside the box. Not his night, in truth. 6/10
