The five‑star country estate, set in hundreds of acres of rolling parkland around 18 miles west of Newcastle, has become the Catalan giants’ base as they prepare for a huge night under the lights at St James’ Park.
With its sweeping drive, towering stone façade and ornate interiors, the Gothic‑style mansion is a world away from the modern team hotels usually favoured by Europe’s elite.

Matfen Hall is a five-star country hotel just outside of Newcastle in Northumberland with a spa and golf estate and 63 individually designed bedrooms ranging from classic rooms to suites.

The hotel sits in more than 300 acres of parkland and woodland near the village of Matfen, giving guests access to landscaped grounds, walking routes and a 27‑hole golf course on site.
The estate now offers multiple bars and restaurants such as the Emerald Restaurant and 1832 bar, as well as The Retreat spa, which includes a pool, thermal suites and gym for guests.
