Browns Bolster Offensive Line With Speculated Steelers Free Agent Target

The Cleveland Browns are boosting their offensive line by signing former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, a veteran some viewed as a Pittsburgh Steelers target. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jenkins is signing a two-year, $24 million deal with $20 million guaranteed.

It’s the latest interior offensive line addition Cleveland’s made after re-signing Teven Jenkins and bringing in Zion Johnson from the Los Angeles Chargers. Jenkins could end up playing center and replace Ethan Pocic, who suffered a season-ending injury in 2025. Earlier this month and prior to free agency, the Browns traded for Houston Texans OT Tytus Howard. These names replace last year’s line highlighted by veterans Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller.

Some Steelers’ fans and analysts targeted Jenkins as a potential Pittsburgh pickup to replace Isaac Seumalo at left guard. Because the Packers cut Jenkins, he wouldn’t impact the Steelers’ compensatory formula. But Jenkins’ play has suffered in recent years due to injuries; in fact, he was waived by Green Bay with a failed physical designation after breaking his leg and suffering ligament damage during the 2025 season.

Jenkins’ sizeable contract is a reminder of how expensive it is to sign free agent offensive linemen. The PPG’s Gerry Dulac noted Pittsburgh would target a veteran guard, but a hot market with heavy tax may complicate the Steelers’ ability to land a notable name. Pittsburgh could explore a mid-tier option like the Carolina Panthers’ Brady Christensen or New Orleans Saints’ Dillon Radunz, two players who have connections to the Steelers’ new offensive line coaching staff.

The draft is another option and would continue Pittsburgh’s recent trend of building through it. Center Zach Frazier, right guard Mason McCormick, and right tackle Troy Fautanu have all developed into clear starters while left tackle Broderick Jones improved in 2025 before suffering a season-ending neck injury that threatens his 2026 status.

On the second day of legal tampering, Pittsburgh’s been far quieter. The team signed punter Cameron Johnston to a one-year contract, but haven’t agreed to terms with any other external free agents.
