NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -
FOOTBALL
Cam Jordan is a free agent, he can sign with any NFL team.
Jordan owns 132 sacks over his 15-year career, all in New Orleans. Now, he could sign another deal with the Saints, but right now he’s testing the free agent market.
I would throw a little caution Cam’s way. He’s got one, maybe two years left in the NFL. Does he want to play 15 years for the Saints, and one for a team giving a little more scratch in his wallet.
Cautionary tales are Emmitt Smith on the Cardinals, Joe Namath with the Rams, Johnny Unitas on the Chargers. Yeah, no one remembers those legends ending their careers with those teams.
Yes Cam, test the market but do you want to put a small blemish on your legacy.
FÚTBOL
It’s time to give a shout out to the soccer schools in the New Orleans area. For the second year in a row, six of the eight state champions came from right around here.
A few weeks back, we were treated to a New Orleans invitational in Hammond. Jesuit was one goal better than Brother Martin, and Dominican beat their rivals Mount Carmel.
The only repeat champ was the ladies from St. Scholastica. It’s a 3-peat of titles for the Doves. Next year, SSA will be back in Division 1.
The Hannan girls captured the program’s first state soccer title. They knocked off the defending champs, Parkview Baptist.
In Division 4, it was a North Shore party of trophies. Northlake Christian on the boys side, and Pope John Paul II for the girls.
Soccer is year-round in South Louisiana, and now our area has six championships to show for it.
FOOD
Devin Snow’s red beans and rice watch has ended. To honor Devin, I’ll continue checking out red beans spots and give my thoughts.
Here’s three spots I hit in the last month that you should try.
Luke makes their beans with crispy fried chicken, housemade tasso, and Tabasco honey. That honey gives the beans a distinct taste that I dig.
It used to be Emeril’s Brasserie at Caesars New Orleans, but now it’s Emeril’s Kitchen. Red beans and rice is on the menu, and I would hit downtown to check them out if I were you. Their take on the beans comes with andouille sausage, and sweet cornbread.
If you find yourself in New Orleans East, go checkout the beans at Vucinovich’s. It comes with smoked sausage and a fried double chicken breast. Also, say hello to owner Russell Vucinovich, he’s a New Orleans original.
