The Denver Nuggets appear set to receive an important boost ahead of a pivotal Western Conference matchup.

All-Star guard Jamal Murray is listed as probable with a left ankle sprain for Wednesday’s home game against the Houston Rockets, according to the NBA’s official injury report.

Murray’s availability comes just days after he returned from that same ankle injury, making his comeback during Monday’s narrow 129–126 loss to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

The timing could not be more important. The sixth-place Nuggets trail the fourth-place Rockets by only one game in the tightly packed Western Conference standings, making Wednesday’s meeting a crucial contest with direct playoff implications.

Jamal Murray Injury Update Encouraging for Nuggets

Murray’s comeback against Oklahoma City came after he missed time due to a left ankle sprain, an injury that initially raised concerns about a longer absence.

Instead, the veteran guard returned quickly and indicated afterward that the injury was not as serious as it appeared.

“It’s okay. I just want to be on the court. I want to be playing,” Murray said. “Especially a game like this that’s going to be high intensity and guys playing as hard as they did, I want to be out there as well. So, I’m glad I was able to push through.”

Murray acknowledged that the ankle injury felt painful in the moment but did not develop into anything significant.

“In the moment, maybe. I mean, it hurt,” he said. “I wasn’t able to return to the game just with how short it was, but it didn’t swell up. Nothing serious. It’s just another ankle sprain that I just have been dealing with and we’re good to go.”

Jamal Murray Returns With 21 Points in Comeback Game

Despite coming off the ankle sprain, Murray logged heavy minutes in Monday’s thriller against Oklahoma City.

He finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists while shooting 9-of-23 from the field and 0-of-4 from three-point range in 37 minutes.

Denver nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback late in the game.

With Oklahoma City leading 126–122, Nikola Jokić knocked down a clutch three-pointer before Murray sank a free throw with 8.5 seconds remaining to tie the game.

However, Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander responded moments later with a step-back three-pointer with 2.7 seconds left, sealing the 129–126 victory for Oklahoma City.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 35 points, a career-high 15 assists and nine rebounds without committing a turnover, becoming only the second player in NBA history to post those totals in a single game.

Nuggets Counting on Murray in Critical Rockets Matchup

Denver’s ability to keep Murray healthy will be critical as the regular season enters its final stretch.

The Nuggets have battled injuries throughout the year, making Murray’s quick return from the ankle sprain a welcome development.

When healthy, Murray remains a cornerstone of Denver’s offense alongside three-time MVP Nikola Jokić.

His ability to create offense, run Denver’s pick-and-roll system and deliver in late-game situations makes him one of the Nuggets’ most important players as the playoff race intensifies.

Nuggets-Rockets Game Carries Major Western Conference Stakes

Wednesday’s matchup against Houston could significantly reshape the Western Conference standings.

The Rockets have emerged as one of the conference’s biggest surprises this season and currently sit ahead of Denver in the playoff race.

With the margin between teams razor-thin, every game down the stretch could influence playoff seeding and postseason positioning.

If Murray suits up as expected, the Nuggets will enter the matchup with their All-Star guard back in the lineup — a crucial factor as they attempt to gain ground in the Western Conference race.
