Lions sign Pro Bowl QB to back up Jared Goff

The [Detroit Lions](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/detroit-lions) have been active on the second day of NFL free agency, and have made two moves in quick succession.

The first was re-signing free-agent corner Rock Ya-Sin to a one-year, $4 million deal, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

And just a few minutes later, Rapoport again has news regarding the Lions.

The NFC North franchise is bringing back veteran quarterback Tedd Bridgewater.

The details of the contract aren't known, but Dan Campbell gets a veteran to back up Jared Goff for 2026.

Bridgewater returns to Detroit

------------------------------

It is a homecoming of sorts for Teddy.

He was a Lion for two years in 2023 and 2024, although he played just one game and didn't throw a pass.

But the Lions get a dependable, veteran quarterback who, if needed, can step in and win games.

Sometimes free agency deals don't need to be big splashes.

Sometimes they can be shrewd signings, and this feels like one. A cost-effective option for the Lions to get a decent backup.
