Jaylen Brown was ejected from Tuesday night’s marquee matchup between the Celtics and San Antonio Spurs.
With 3:42 remaining in the second quarter, Brown began arguing with referee Tyler Ford after what he viewed as a dubious no-call against Spurs guard Stephon Castle, who was guarding the Celtics star along the sideline. Castle was not called for a foul, and the play resulted in a turnover.
As San Antonio gained possession, Brown continued pleading with Ford. Fifteen seconds after the initial whistle, Ford assessed Brown a technical foul. Brown persisted, and as he was being held back by teammates Derrick White, Sam Hauser and Baylor Scheierman, he received a second technical foul from a different official, Suyash Mehta, resulting in his ejection from the game.

It was the second ejection of Brown’s 10-year NBA career, the first coming in a 2023 game against the New York Knicks.
The dismissal prematurely ended what was shaping up to be a strong outing for Brown, who had eight points, seven assists and two rebounds in 15 minutes. The Celtics led the Spurs 51-49 at the time.
Boston’s first meeting with San Antonio on Jan. 10 also featured a Brown-related officiating controversy, as he was fined $25,000 for blasting Curtis Blair’s crew in a profane postgame rant.
“Every time we play a good team, the inconsistency is crazy,” Brown said after the Spurs’ 100-95 win at TD Garden. “I’ll take the (expletive) fine. Curtis and those dudes was terrible tonight. I don’t care. They can fine me whatever they want. But it’s crazy. Every time we play a good team, it’s the same (BS).”
Minutes after his ejection on Tuesday, Brown tweeted: “This is the (expletive) I be talking about.”
The Celtics already were shorthanded entering Tuesday’s game, as key reserves Payton Pritchard (neck) and Nikola Vucevic (finger) both were inactive due to injury. The matchup featured two of the NBA’s top teams, with San Antonio and Boston coming in with the league’s second- and fourth-best records and third- and second-best net ratings.
