The Green Bay Packers might not have been players in the Maxx Crosby trade sweepstakes, but they could feel the ripple effect of the Baltimore Ravens stunningly backing out of their blockbuster trade to acquire the Pro Bowler.

In a bombshell update, the Las Vegas Raiders announced Tuesday, March 10, that the Ravens have backed out of their trade agreement to acquire Crosby — a five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher — for two first-round draft picks, including No. 14 overall in 2026.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Ravens called off the trade because of medical reasons, failing him on his physical amid his recovery from meniscus surgery.

“This decision that the Raiders say that the Ravens have made is an indication that they do not believe [Crosby’s knee recovery] is going to be fine,” Rapoport said Tuesday. “It is a lot to invest in a pass rusher. It is two first-round picks, it is a historic trade — the first time they have ever traded a first-rounder of any player — and it appears the Ravens are just not comfortable with what they found in the medical exams for Crosby, so it is now off.”

Unfortunately for the Packers, if the Raiders are still intent on trading Crosby, it could mean the Dallas Cowboys — who were one of the original trade finalists for Crosby — will throw themselves back into the race and take one more run at landing him. And if that happens, then the Cowboys could call off their Rashan Gary trade with Green Bay.

Cowboys Have Option to Back Out on Rashan Gary

The Packers and Cowboys reached a trade agreement to send Gary to Dallas for a 2027 fourth-round draft selection on March 9’s opening day of free agent negotiations, but the Cowboys have the option to back out of that deal at any time — for any reason — in the remaining hours before the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. ET on March 11.

In other words, if the Cowboys circle back with the Raiders and reach a new deal to land Crosby for the 2026 season, they can pull the plug on their agreed-upon trade for Gary.

The Packers might have a difficult time finding a trade for Gary in the same league as the one that they currently have pending with the Cowboys. Many thought they would release him outright in 2026 if they could not find a trade partner, given that his play declined in 2025 and he is due to cost roughly $28 million against their cap in 2026.

An alleged hacker incident with Gary’s social media accounts also fueled speculation that the Packers intended to release him for the cap relief before the new league year.

Now, unless they had another trade suitor for Gary in place, they may have no other choice but to release him and settle for the cap relief that comes with cutting ties.

Belief is Cowboys Will Not Reroute to Maxx Crosby

Given what happened with Crosby, it would not be overly surprising to see the Cowboys reroute their plans and attempt to bring him in — especially if Jerry Jones wants him.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, though, expectations are the Cowboys will stick to their original plan and leave Crosby’s future for other teams to figure out.

“The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to re-engage in Maxx Crosby trade discussions at this time, a high-ranking source tells The Athletic,” Russini wrote on X on March 10.

For the Packers, that should mean they are safe. While a rescinded trade for Gary would not set them back tremendously, it would strip them of a future fourth-rounder and put them in a worse moving-on situation with Gary, in which they would most likely need to cut him loose to gain cap relief instead of also gaining draft capital in a trade deal.

Even still, the Packers may find themselves holding their breath as they wait for either a resolution to Crosby’s situation or their Gary trade to become official on Wednesday.
