How Raiders' free agent moves, cap space are impacted by getting Maxx Crosby back in failed Ravens trade

The Los Vegas Raiders have been incredibly busy in free agency thanks to a huge amount of open salary cap space.

That was after they traded Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens, or so they thought. But the deal was backed out of by the Ravens on Tuesday night, and so now the Raiders are absorbing back Crosby's big salary.

His contract extension from last offseason pays him $35.5 million per year. That's a lot of cash.

The Raiders had so much room, though, that things should be OK.

The California Post's Vincent Bonsignore posted this on X on Tuesday night:

"I've been told by two league sources that the @Raiders should have the necessary cap space to welcome Maxx back and honor all the free agent commitments they have made. If so, the team Crosby returns to is far different than the one he briefly left? Enough to want to stay?"

Even before considering whether Crosby wants to stick around now, it's important that the Raiders won't have to change their other free agent plans.

Their list of signings has included Nakobe Dean, Quay Walke, Kwity Paye, Jalen Nailor and Tyler Linderbaum. There's also kicker Matthew Gay and re-signings Malcolm Koonce and Eric Stokes.

Maybe the Raiders would've approached things differently on the pass rush front if they knew they still had Crosby, particularly the reported three-year, $48 million deal with Paye. But you really can't have too many guys to get after the quarterback.

Crosby might still get traded anyway.

But the initial aspect here is good for the Raiders. They aren't backed into too terrible a corner. They can still sign these free agents, and they've got a chance to consider all their Crosby options once again.
