Bam Adebayo made history on Tuesday, March 10, scoring 83 points during the Miami Heat‘s victory over the Washington Wizards.
Now, Adedayo has scored the second-highest points in a game in NBA history, with the record still going to Wilt Chamberlain for his legendary 100-point game in 1962.
The final score for Tuesday’s game was 150-129, with a definitive Heat win.
Adebayo, according to NBA research, went 20 of 43 from the field, 7 of 22 from 3-point range and 36 of 43 from the free throw line. He had nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks, playing for nearly 42 minutes.
In addition, Adebayo’s free throw makes and attempts both notched NBA records for a game. He beat the previous record for attempts, which was 39 by Dwight Howard, and the previous record for free throws made, which was 28 and set by Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley.
It was a massive showing for Adebayo, especially considering that he was averaging only 4.8 free throw attempts per game before this matchup.
After the game, the player told reporters, “Man, I wish I could relive it twice.” He said that the night ranked No. 1 in his career, and he also gave the credit to God, his family, his teammates and the crowd.
Fans were quick to go to social media to respond. “Bam Adebayo isn't even a name you hear that often. Sometimes, when you're on, you're on. Incredible,” one said on X.
“Maxx Crosby sent back to Vegas and Bam Adebayo scores 83. What a time to be alive,” another said. How real is that?
“Bam Adebayo scored 83 points. That really happened. We were there. Live thoughts from a night nobody could have expected, and a night nobody will ever forget,” another said.
“Bam Adebayo has the highest scoring game in NBA history 83 This was something insane I saw today still can’t believe,” one more stated.
“No one has ever seen footage from this game. Bam Adebayo has the most points in NBA history,” another said.
