Wizards coach confused by fouls, free throws in Bam Adebayo's 83 points

Adebayo splashed 36 of his staggering 43 free throws in his historic performance, nailing 16 foul shots alone in the fourth quarter that helped him seal the epic night.

Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe is simply clueless about the officiating that led to Bam Adebayo's historic 83-point performance on Tuesday evening.

Miami Heat / Schedule

Keefe and his youthful, rebuilding Wizards team found themselves on the other side of history in the 150-129 loss. But he is simply confused about how everything went so easily through for Adebayo, specifically down the stretch.

“There was a lot of fouls called, 16 free throws in the fourth quarter,” Keefe said. “[We were] just trying to take the ball out of his hands. He’s still got some free throws 40 feet from the rim.

"I can’t explain some of those calls.”

Adebayo surpassed Kobe Bryant (81) for the second-highest scoring performance by a player in NBA history. Apparently, free throws played an important role for the Heat star to pull it off.

Adebayo went for a staggering 36-of-43 from the line. He broke Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley's record for most free throws made (28) and shattered the long-standing NBA record for free throw attempts previously held by Dwight Howard (39).

Adebayo nailed 16 free throws alone in the final period, as the Heat primarily gave him the green light to go for the record-breaking event, and the Wizards couldn't do anything but foul him.

"That’s on us.”
