The Green Bay Packers have had an up and down start to free agency.
On the one hand, the Packers missed out on Riq Woolen and Malik Willis did not manage to obtain as much as fans were hoping, thus missing out a third round compensatory pick.
On the other hand the team still have four players that been well compensated by other teams; Willis, Romeo Doubs, Quay Walker and Kinglsey Enagbare; such that the Packers are currently set to haul in two compensatory fourth rounders and a compensatory fifth in 2027 – and that is with left tackle Rasheed Walker remaining unsigned through two days.
Green Bay also managed, almost inexplicably, to trade edge rusher Rashan Gary for a fourth rounder in 2027.
The telling reaction was that of his former teammate and position-mate Micah Parsons. It has long been rumored that Parsons is not the biggest fan of Gary due to his widely perceived lack of effort, despite him having all the physical traits needed to succeed at the position.
Whilst Parsons commented on the trading away of backup defensive tackle Colby Wooden, the former Cowboy did not post a word about the departure of the Michigan alum.
And in replying to a post just one day after his release, which asked Parsons about the most important trait to have as pass rusher off the edge, the Penn State product mentioned Gary’s biggest weakness.
Parsons Believed to Have Made Dig at Rashan Gary in Post
“Pursuit and effort”, Parsons wrote in response to a post from another user asking about the one trait needed to evaluate EDGE talent.
And many of the accounts responding to the tweet believe that this is a not-so-subtle at his former teammate, who will suit up for the Dallas Cowboys next season.
“So anti-Rashan Gary”, one user replied.
“Exactly what Rashan Gary didn’t have huh”, another responded.
“Rashan Gary had neither”, a further one added.
Another user pointed out that this was a “subtle shot” at Gary from Parsons, before encouraging the Packers to find another, more hard-working defensive end to operate alongside the former 12th overall pick.

What Will the Packers’ Edge Rushing Unit Look Like?
Now down both Gary and Enagbare, it is safe to say that Green Bay will likely be giving looks to players who did not see much of the field in 2025.
Collin Oliver spent the majority of his rookie season on the Reserve/PUP (physically unable to perform) list due to a hamstring injury suffered in training camp, whilst rookie fellow edge rusher Barryn Sorrell also dealt with some injury issues early on and saw his opportunities be limited throughout the season sitting behind the more experienced veterans.
The Packers will likely hope both players will have a more substantial rotational role behind Parsons and 2023 first round pick Lukas Van Ness, whose career to date has not quite gone in the direction many hoped when he was selected with the 13th overall pick back – although he did show reasonable improvements in 2025, even if the stat line did not show it.
