Alexis Mac Allister made the news this week as speculation about Liverpool contracts — specifically for the midfielders — came into focus.
While some deals are progressing well, others remain in the very early stages of discussion, reflecting a measured approach from the decision-makers at Liverpool.
Mac Allister’s contract is not being discussed yet, with his father rebuking claims that negotiations had begun.

Writing on the latest situation, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that while several key names are in the frame for new deals, there is a varying degree of urgency across the board.

The Italian told his YouTube channel: “The point is that Liverpool are going step by step about the contract. They are talking with Ibrahima Konate but at the moment still no final agreement done.
“They’re talking with Dominik Szoboszlai as I reported. They extended the contract of Ryan Gravenberch a few days ago, a new deal on important terms and so Liverpool are going step by step on the contracts. At the moment with Mac Allister, nothing imminent, nothing close is the reality.

“Mac Allister is aware of Liverpool interest in opening negotiations in the next months but at the moment still nothing concrete, still nothing advanced and so that’s the status of the story.”

The most striking takeaway from these updates is the clear disparity in urgency between the various midfield components.
By already tying Ryan Gravenberch down to a new deal, Liverpool have sent a definitive message about his standing in the project. It suggests that, in the eyes of the decision-makers, Gravenberch is currently the higher priority or perhaps more highly regarded in terms of his long-term ceiling under Slot.

Similar to Dominik Szoboszlai, though his Player of the Season form makes extending him a clear priority.
The fact that talks with the Argentine are described as ‘nothing imminent’ or ‘advanced’ highlights a surprising gap.
For a player who was seen as the undisputed heartbeat of the post-Klopp transition, being placed further down the queue than Gravenberch is telling of the drop-off we have seen from Mac Allister.
