Bruno Guimaraes reacts to Newcastle United's draw with Barcelona

Bruno Guimaraes sent a message of support to his Newcastle United teammates following their draw with Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Guimaraes, of course, is injured and could not play as Newcastle United drew 1-1 with Barcelona at St James’ Park after goals from Harvey Barnes and Lamine Yamal respectively.

The concession of a late penalty was cruel on Newcastle United, who played well on the night and now face a huge task to progress past the round of 16 in the Champions League when they head to Spain next week.

Watching from his native Brazil, Guimaraes uploaded an Instagram story reflecting on the result, reading: “Tremendous effort from the boys, couldn’t ask for more! Very unlucky in the end. We go again next week.”

Newcastle United get Bruno’s seal of approval as replacement plan works out

Directly replacing Guimaraes is almost impossible and to suggest otherwise is almost blasphemous, given the Brazilian’s importance to the cause.

Still, the midfield that Eddie Howe was able to name played very well.

I'll wait…

Indeed, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton did not look out of place up against an extremely talented Barcelona midfield, while Jacob Ramsey enjoyed what was arguably his finest game yet since his move from Aston Villa.

Though missing Guimaraes is clearly a blow, the midfield who actually did play did little to suggest that they will be absolutely blown away next week.

Will Bruno Guimaraes be fit to play for Newcastle United vs Barcelona?

Sadly not.

Guimaraes has a hamstring injury and it is expected to rule him out for the foreseeable future, with no exact time set on his return just yet.

Initial reports suggested that the former Lyon star could be back in action after the international break later this month, although nothing has been confirmed on that front.

Hopefully, Newcastle still have some Champions League football to offer him when he returns to action.
