Former England striker Emile Heskey has suggested that Cole Palmer could thrive at FC Barcelona if the Chelsea playmaker were ever to leave Stamford Bridge, while also pointing to another possible destination closer to home.
Palmer has been one of CHELSEA’s standout performers since his move from Manchester City, establishing himself as a key attacking figure and one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents. His performances have inevitably sparked speculation about his long-term future, particularly given the growing interest in elite creative midfielders across Europe.
Heskey believes the England international has the quality to play for any of the continent’s biggest clubs and singled out Barcelona as a particularly good stylistic fit. Speaking about the 23-year-old, the former Liverpool forward said he could easily imagine Palmer in the famous Catalan shirt, arguing that his technical ability and flair would appeal to supporters at the Spanish giants
Asked whether he expects Palmer to stay at Chelsea for a good few more years, ex-England striker Heskey told OLBG: ‘If Cole Palmer is a Manchester United fan, probably not!
‘I could see someone like him in a Barcelona shirt. The way that he plays, the fans would love him. But then again, when you’re a kid and you’re growing up, there’s things that you dream of doing as a footballer.
However, Heskey also believes another destination could ultimately prove more likely if Palmer ever pushes for a transfer away from Chelsea. The ex-striker pointed out that the Manchester-born midfielder grew up supporting Manchester United, raising the possibility that a move to Old Trafford could appeal if the opportunity arose.
‘You dream of playing at a World Cup. You dream of putting on that England shirt. You dream of lifting the FA Cup. Things like that. And you dream of playing for your boyhood club. So Cole will have dreams too, possibly to play for Manchester United, so I wouldn’t put it past him if he did turn up there and they did take him on.’
Heskey suggested that footballers often dream of representing their boyhood clubs and hinted that Palmer could be tempted by such a scenario during his career.
Despite the speculation, there is currently no indication that Palmer is seeking an exit from CHELSEA. The attacking midfielder remains central to the club’s plans and continues to be viewed as a cornerstone of their long-term project.
For now, any potential move to Barcelona or Manchester United remains purely hypothetical. But Heskey’s comments underline just how highly Palmer is regarded across the game — with the England international already seen as a player capable of starring on the biggest stages in European football.
