Liverpool will reportedly not make a move to sign Michael Olise, with the transfer being branded as unrealistic by Fabrizio Romano. The journalist has, however, added further insight into the Reds’ transfer plans for the summer ahead.
This season, the Frenchman has 13 goals and 25 assists. His explosion since leaving Crystal Palace has been incredible, but it’s no surprise that Bayern Munich will demand silly money to sell him.
Olise allegedly does not have a release clause so there is really no pressure for Bayern to sell a player under contract until 2029. An asking price of £100m has been set by the Bavarians, according to Football Insider.
However, Olise isn’t the only attacking target the Reds have. Yan Diomande is their top target, judging by the sheer volume of reports linking Liverpool with an £80m move to sign the Ivorian.
Fabrizio Romano rubbishes Olise transfer but confirms Liverpool plan to sign multiple wingers
Reporting on The Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano played down the chances of Liverpool making a play to sign Michael Olise, but has confirmed rumours that FSG will sign multiple wingers in the summer.
“Yeah, always many links about this one because, yes, it’s true that Liverpool appreciates Olise, but who doesn’t like Olise? I mean, he’s one of the best players in the world,” the Italian said while discussing Liverpool’s attacking transfer plans.
Romano continued: “He’s doing fantastic at Bayern, so obviously many links with Liverpool because Liverpool will add players on the winger position.
“So Liverpool will do something there. Could be one, could be two, we will see.
“But at the moment, Michael Olise is seen as an unrealistic target because he doesn’t have a release clause, and also because Bayern absolutely want to keep Olise.”
Liverpool will benefit from incoming wingers
Mohamed Salah could return to his best form – it’s dangerous to bet against him – but this season has marked a major downturn in form for the firsttime in his Liverpool career.
After his 34 goals and 23 assists last season, the 33-year-old has managed just nine goals and eight assists this season. For reference, Salah managed eight goals and seven assists in December 2024 alone.
Cody Gakpo has diminished over the last year or so as well. Not only is he extremely predictable (cut in and shoot), but his numbers have also decreased significantly.
Signing Diomande and another top winger is necessary for Liverpool to get the best out of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak next season.
