Arsenal are weighing up whether to sign Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt on a free transfer, according to reports in Germany.

Sky Sport Deutschland claim that the 29-year-old “wants to go abroad” when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Dortmund knocked back two approaches from unnamed Premier League clubs for Brandt during the January transfer window, as they still hoped to keep the player.
However, the German international has made his intentions clear that he will not be signing a new deal.
There will be some competition for Brandt
It is believed that Spanish champions Barcelona have also shown interest in Brandt, but both the Catalan club and the Gunners have signalled that he would only be a squad player if he decides to join them.
At this stage, neither team have offered a contract to the midfielder, but it’s clear that the two sides would be keen on snapping him up under the right circumstances.
Brandt’s current salary is reportedly in the region of £116,000 a week, so he is not exactly earning a massive amount, and finding an agreement would not be difficult if Mikel Arteta‘s side do decide to step up their pursuit over the coming weeks.
Arsenal have shown interest in another Bundesliga star
Like Brandt, Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is out of contract in June. The Gunners showed some interest in recruiting the player in January, but he was keen on seeing out his current deal at the Allianz Arena.
The 31-year-old is, however, believed to be open to making a switch to the Emirates this summer. Get a stadium tour with Virgin Experience Days here.
It is unlikely that proposals would be made to both Brandt and Goretzka, so we shall have to wait and see whether either of them ends up in North London.
