There was no bigger story on Tuesday night in the Association than Miami Heat star big man Bam Adebayo’s historic performance. Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo had already reacted to it following his team’s 129-114 loss at home at Fiserv Forum against the Phoenix Suns.
Antetokounmpo even defended Adebayo from people who somehow tried to downplay the former Kentucky Wildcats star’s accomplishment by saying he took a ton of freebies at the foul line to get to 83 points.
“It doesn’t matter how you get there,” Antetokounmpo said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic.
“All that matters is that you got it. Like in 10, 20, 30 years from now, nobody’s going to remember how many free throws he shot. I don’t think I remember how many shots Kobe shot or how many free throws he made or threes. All you remember is 81. Wilt, 100. You don’t remember (how). So, at the end of the day, he got 83 points.”
Bucks’ Antetokounmpo has hilarious take on facing Adebayo and the Heat in Milwaukee’s next game
Antetokounmpo joked about the upcoming showdown against Miami following that epic performance by Adebayo.
“We’ll try to not let him score 83. He’s going to score 82. So, we’ll do our best for him to score 82, not 83,” told reporters after the Suns game (via Nehm).
Odds are stacked against Adebayo scoring at least that many points for the second game in a row. Then again, who knew that he’d erupt for 83 points on Tuesday?
For what it’s worth, Adebayo has averaged just 15.2 points in 27 games in his career against Milwaukee, shooting 46.9 percent from the field.
