The London Blues are considering a Chelsea player as a flop as the player is in really bad form recently. Liam Delap is the player who still have the trust of the Chelsea’s management and the board. Delap has failed to show his skills upon his arrival at the club, and fans are slowly turning against him. It would be interesting to see what the board decides at the end of the season.
Delap is a young player still and has made the big jump up from Ipswich Town to Chelsea, with both teams playing in very different ways. I think he has struggled to adapt to this and has been struggling as a result. The long term injuries have also not helped him this season. A reporter gave an update on Liam Delap’s situation when speaking on a podcast, and it looks as if he’s very much here to stay.
“They will give him a chance. They believe in him. I think they just feel behind the scenes that he’s been a little bit unlucky with injuries and also because Joao Pedro has been playing so well.
“The message from inside the club is you have to back him, trust him, and just give him a little bit more time because he is very young.”
Chelsea currently only have Marc Guiu as the other option up front, other than Joao Pedro, so it’s not a surprise that Chelsea are willing to give Liam Delap more time.He has shown his creative side of things with four assists, doubling his goal tally.
Is Pedro to blame for the downfall of the Chelsea player?
Blaming Joao Pedro for Liam Delap’s difficult start at Chelsea is a matter of perspective rather than direct fault. Pedro’s world-class form since his arrival has essentially barricaded the starting striker position, leaving Delap to feed on scrap minutes and cup cameos.
For a young forward who thrives on physical rhythm and consistent service. Playing second fiddle to a player of Pedro’s caliber has undoubtedly stunted his integration into Liam Rosenior’s setup.
However, Pedro is merely the benchmark, not the obstacle. Delap’s struggles are more accurately attributed to the steep jump in expectations from Ipswich to Stamford Bridge. He’s had opportunities to make an impact, but he just hasn’t taken them at times.
Rosenior helped the Blues turnaround their fortunes in Europe with two wins in the group stage that secured a guaranteed place in the Round of 16. Their reward, however, is a tie with the current holders of the competition. A side Chelsea have history with as a result of their eventful Club World Cup triumph last summer.
The London Blues are facing PSG next.
Rosenior has experience with the results with PSG from his time at Strasbourg. It has been seen that both times he has gotten a result, he utilized a back three formation. The Ligue 1 side picked up a huge 2-1 win, which set them up to qualify for the Conference League. Where they are currently one of the favourites to win the competition. Rosenior utilized a 3-4-2-1 on that day, a system that Chelsea fans have not seen much of since the new boss took over.
This is a trick that he has used twice since moving to Stamford Bridge. With the most recent match being against Wrexham in the FA Cup.
There are likely to be plenty of changes to the starting side. Including the entire backline however, there will be concerns about how much space Wrexham found themselves in when hitting Chelsea on the counterattack.
Author’s insight
From the author’s point of view, Liam Delap should be given a few more chances to prove his skills. It would be interesting to see how he utilizes the opportunity.
