The Chicago Bears may want to snag Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders, now that he's available, but they'll have competition.
The Chicago Bears still have time to secure Las Vegas Raiders edge Maxx Crosby and bring him to the Windy City. In a quick turnaround, on Tuesday, March 10, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced that the Baltimore Ravens have bailed on their deal to acquire Crosby.
So, Crosby is tradeable again, and Ben Johnson and the Bears could make a play for him. The deal, which was going to become official on Wednesday, March 11, was to trade the five-time Pro-Bowl defensive end to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for 2026 and 2027 first-round picks. But, as Schefter shared on X, the “Ravens backed out of the Maxx Crosby trade.”
“With free agency beginning Wednesday, the Ravens and Raiders have plenty of questions to answer going forward,” ESPN notes in their feature about the canceled trade.
The Chicago Bears are already Super Bowl contenders, and having an elite edge such as Crosby would make them that much closer to securing their goal. So, will they do it? If so, they’ll have stiff competition.
Chicago Bears Will Have Stiff Competition to Get Maxx Crosby to the Franchise, But That’s Okay
There aren’t many elite defensive ends in the NFL, so the Bears won’t be alone in their pursuit of Crosby. So, what other teams will be serious about getting him?
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA Today seeing the New England Patriots as stiff competition.
“With insufficient pressure off the edge, New England was essentially boxed into frequent all-out blitzes down the stretch of the postseason,” he notes in a Tuesday, March 10 piece. “Crosby no doubt would change all that. He also could help Vrabel’s crew establish itself as the clear class of the conference in a landscape that now seems fairly wide open.”
Another team is the Eagles, with Middlehurst-Schwartz noting, “Philadelphia is at a potential crisis point, and getting a cornerstone player on defense could provide a much higher margin of error for an offense bound to undergo some more turbulence in Sean Mannion’s first season as play-caller.”
One Team the Chicago Bears Won’t Have to Arm-Wrestle With for Maxx Crosby
One team the Bears won’t have to arm-wrestle with, according to Dianna Russini of the Athletic, is the Dallas Cowboys, who she says are no longer going to pursue him.
“The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to re-engage in Maxx Crosby trade discussions at this time, a high-ranking source tells The Athletic,” she said on a post on X.
Of course, Crosby could always remain a Raider. “Raider Nation has given me everything,” Crosby said in the now-deleted message. “My family, had the chance to get married, have the most beautiful daughter in the world, grow as a man, as a player, as a leader, a human being. One thing I could say is above all else is that I gave you everything I got and I have no regrets about that. I put everything into trying to win as a Raider.”
During the 2025NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception.
