Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas scored another match-winner for Hull as they boosted their Premier League promotion hopes with a 2-1 victory over Wrexham.
Koumas’ mid-season switch from Birmingham to Hull could hardly be playing out any better, with the 20-year-old recapturing his form at the MKM Stadium.
A winning goal with his first touch four minutes into his debut set the tone, and he followed that up another just two minutes after being subbed on in a 4-2 victory over Derby last month.
The Wales international made it three goals for Hull on Tuesday night as he scored the eventual winner in a 2-1 triumph over playoff rivals Wrexham.
This time it came as a starter, having been named in Sergej Jakirovic’s XI for three of the last four Championship games, deployed as one of two No. 10s behind striker Oli McBurnie.
After fellow loanee Joe Gelhardt put Hull 1-0 up in the first half from a free-kick, Koumas headed in former Liverpool winger Liam Millar’s cross just after the hour mark to double their lead.
Wrexham pulled one back through Nathan Broadhead midway through the second half but Hull were able to secure a valuable win despite Gelhardt also seeing a penalty saved.
HullLive‘s Barry Cooper awarded Koumas a team-high 7.5 out of 10, with Football League World‘s Benedict Ferraby giving the same rating – behind only Gelhardt (8/10).

With nine games left to play, Hull are nine points cleared of seventh-placed Derby and with their win over Wrexham moved further ahead of the celebrity-backed club in fifth.
They are only six points behind Middlesbrough in second, though Kim Hellberg’s side have a game in hand which comes against Charlton on Wednesday night.
Koumas struggled for consistency in his half-season on loan at Birmingham, making 25 appearances but only starting nine games with just one goal.
