Following his incredible 83-point showing against the Washington Wizards, Bam Adebayo was joined by WNBA superstar A’Ja Wilson during his postgame press conference in Miami, Florida.
Wilson had a heartfelt message for the veteran center following the Heat’s blowout victory.
“God is really just really special for him, and God doesn’t play about Bam."
Tuesday’s action between the Heat and the Wizards was Wilson’s first game watching Adebayo in over a week. According to the multi-time NBA All-Star, Wilson was bummed to miss Adebayo’s recent milestone of reaching 10,000 points in the league.
So, in the first game back, he notched the second-most amount of points in NBA history in a single game.
“She was complaining I got my 10,000th point,” he told reporters. “She wanted me to wait. To have 83 the first game she’s here is very special. The behind-the-scenes, workouts, and conversations, they are very motivating. Obviously, you see what she does. You get inspired every day by that. I’m thankful to have her in my life.”
Wilson, 29, has spent her entire WNBA career with the Las Vegas Aces. In 2018, she was selected first overall out of South Carolina. Over eight seasons, Wilson has been one of the most decorated WNBA players. She is a three-time WNBA Champion, two-time WNBA Finals MVP, four-time WNBA MVP, and a seven-time All-Star.
Considering all she has accomplished at the highest level of women’s basketball, it’s no surprise that she’s an inspirational presence for Adebayo, who is one of the most accomplished Miami Heat players of his era.
Over nine NBA seasons, Adebayo has been a three-time All-Star. He is one of the best two-way centers in the game, consistently landing in the league’s Defensive Player of the Year conversation.
But Tuesday’s action was all about the offensive end of the floor for Adebayo.
In 42 minutes, he shot 20-43 from the field. Adebayo scored seven baskets from deep and went 36-43 from the charity stripe. The veteran center finished with 83 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
The Miami Heat defeated the Wizards 150-129.
