Brian McBride says David Moyes has a ‘really special’ trait that makes him a top manager

Brian McBride played under David Moyes at both Preston North End and Everton.

McBride only played eight times for Everton, as he joined on a three-month loan from Columbus Crew in 2003.

The centre-forward netted four goals during that period, including a brace against Sunderland in his second game.

Moyes’ current deal expires next year… 🤔

Speaking on the Unfiltered Soccer podcast, McBride spoke about his experience playing under David Moyes and what made him such a top manager.

Brian McBride says David Moyes is an excellent coach and man manager

There are two types of managers in modern football; a tactical coach and a man manager who oversees the club.

McBride explains that Moyes is both of those things, which makes him really special.

“I didn’t spend a ton of time with him, but Moyesy… people ask me like, who was the best manager you ever played under? David Moyes is it.

“Just because not only does he understand the game and can coach the game, and in training, even though Alan does a lot of the stuff, and I don’t know if he’s still doing a lot of the stuff, Moyesy is always the one who gives what we’re trying to get out of this.

“This is exactly why we’re doing this. Then having the ability to man-manage like he does, that mixture of those two things, is really special.”

Is this genuinely realistic…🤔

David Moyes deserves a new contract at Everton

Moyes is actually out of contract next year, so the Friedkin Group have a big decision to make over the next few months.

The Scotsman’s deal should be extended, as the progress has been clear to see. This time last year, the Toffees were in a relegation battle; now they’re fighting for Europe.

Does David Moyes need to put more trust in Everton’s academy players? 😤

Surely some of these players can do better than Beto and Dwight McNeil! 😡

Since Moyes returned in January 2025, Everton have picked up the sixth-most points in the Premier League.

That shows he’s turned them into a genuine Europa League-level side, so it seems like a no-brainer really.
