Micky van de Ven to Liverpool transfer dismissed: “He would want to come”

Liverpool fans should not expect a move for Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven this summer – even if the Dutchman would be open to joining.

Van de Ven was touted with a switch to Liverpool before his £43 million move to Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023, but speculation at the time was played down.

With Sunday’s opponents now in danger of relegation the links between Van de Ven and Liverpool have resurfaced, with the Mail‘s Matt Barlow claiming “keen interest” back in January.

However his colleague Dominic King has quashed claims of a move for the 24-year-old when speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday.

“From what I’ve heard, I don’t believe they’re in for him,” he explained when asked if he thought Van de Ven would end up at Anfield.

“I would never say anything definitively about a football transfer, because things can change.

“I would believe that he would want to come to Liverpool, from what I’ve heard, but I’m not sure that the feeling is totally mutual at this moment in time.”

This should come as no surprise, not least due to Van de Ven’s own struggles – particularly of late, with the Netherlands international suspended for Sunday’s clash at Anfield after a red card against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool transfer plans: Why centre-back will not be a priority

But more simply, Liverpool are unlikely to see centre-back as a priority position heading into the summer transfer window.

Much will depend on **Ibrahima Konate**‘s future, but with a £60 million deal for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet already finalised and Giovanni Leoni earmarked for a prominent role upon his return from ACL surgery, the focus will be elsewhere.

Liverpool are expected to sign at least one high-profile winger ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with RB Leizpig’s Yan Diomande among those most frequently linked.

There could also be further reinforcements in midfield, as doubts persist over **Curtis Jones**‘ future along with that of Wataru Endo, Stefan Bajcetic and, amid interest from Real Madrid, Alexis Mac Allister.

If Konate does not sign a new contract Liverpool could still sign another centre-back, but Jacquet is unlikely to join as a backup player – at least for the long term.

Van de Ven has been valued at anywhere from £70 million to £100 million, though if Tottenham were to be relegated to the Championship that price tag would drop considerably.

The Big Debate

Should Liverpool target Tottenham‘s Micky van de Ven this summer?

Though links with a move for Van de Ven have been downplayed, with Tottenham heading for relegation a cut-price transfer could suit Liverpool if Ibrahima Konate leaves.
